Reflective Esaay
I can honestly say I really had no idea what I was getting myself into when I began attending ACLC in my freshman year. The work load and the amount of independence I had been given basically out of nowhere had been such a challenge at first. Though through these four years I feel that I’ve learned so much about motivation and drive, I see great things for myself in the near future. In the years I’ve sent attending aclc have not only taught me so much about prioritizing what needs to get done, but has helped me so much socially.
All my life I’ve had trouble speaking to others, even when asking a simple question to a fellow peer. So naturally working with others has been a very hard thing for me, but in the past years my skills in working with others has improved incredibly. I’ve also found that my listening skills have improved greatly. Before I came to aclc I never paid much attention to much and listened to a lot. Though through the years I’ve found Especially in finding key information in lectures and taking notes.
I have always had strong visual skills. I’m an artist, so visualization is second nature for me. Going through life. I have found that my skill in visualization has been greatly beneficial to me. Upon being assigned projects in school I’d be able to come up with an idea and see it in my “mind’s eye” for either a colorful infographic or putting together an informational poster thats also aesthetically pleasing. Harnessing this skill allows me to learn better color coding notes and using symbols help me to label the significance of something on my to- do list. As well as helping me to plan and lay out things.
I found that I have always been good with negotiation, and with time I’ve only gotten better. I work well as a mediator and a problem solver. I often use my creativity to come up with peaceful solutions to problems that I see being faced. There have been occasions in my classes where two people, whether it be a teacher and a student or two others that can’t seem to agree on something and I have offered a solution thats a good medium and that has solved the issue. I find that I enjoy helping others in this way as well.
My skills in applying technology to tasks have definitely improved and widened significantly over the past few years. I was not very good with using computers and such until I came to Aclc, but I found myself more or less submerged in it and needed to educate myself because. the majority of the work I have to do requires either a computer or other sorts of technology. At first it was hard and , I had to reach out a lot for help. I did learn pretty quickly, and it’s been so useful ever since.
